Wyoming is the least populous state and knows it, with fewer people than several American cities and more antelope than people. It gave women the vote in 1869, twenty-one years before statehood, partly on principle and partly to attract settlers. Yellowstone was the first national park anywhere in the world, and the Tetons rise straight out of the valley floor without foothills. Go for both, but go in September, when the crowds thin out and the elk start bugling.
The first place in America to give women the vote, in 1869, twenty-one years before statehood.
