Pennsylvania was founded as an experiment in religious tolerance and became the workshop of the country, coal and steel and rail. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh sit at opposite ends with what a former governor called Alabama in between, which was rude and not entirely wrong about how different the middle is. It has America's oldest brewery, running since 1829. Go for Fallingwater, which is worth the detour, and Philadelphia for the history and the sandwiches, in that order or the other one.
Yuengling is the oldest operating brewery in America and survived Prohibition making ice cream.
