Missouri is the country's hinge, where the plains meet the South and the Mississippi meets the Missouri. It sent people west from St Louis and Independence for a century. Kansas City and St Louis are different cities with different barbecue and a real rivalry, and between them is the Ozarks, which is its own culture. Go for the Gateway Arch, which is taller than it looks and has no straight lines in it, and float a river in the Ozarks in summer.
The Gateway Arch is the tallest monument in the country and has no straight lines.
