The place
One of the original 13 · ratified 1787 · Border state in the Civil War · Eastern time
Delaware is two states in one: a corporate filing address at the top and farmland and beach towns all the way down. More companies are registered here than there are residents, because its Court of Chancery has been settling business disputes since 1792 and does it faster than anywhere else. It ratified first and has been first on the list ever since. Go for Rehoboth in summer, but the surprise is the Brandywine valley, where the du Ponts built gardens and museums and then opened them to everybody.
More registered companies than residents, by a factor of nearly two.
