Arizona is a young state built on an old landscape, admitted in 1912 and shaped since by air conditioning, retirees and water it does not have. The Sonoran desert is the most biologically busy desert on earth, and the saguaro that everybody draws grows nowhere else. Phoenix sprawls, Tucson resists, and the Navajo Nation is larger than ten states. Go for the Grand Canyon, obviously, but the more affecting drive is the road up to Flagstaff, where you climb out of cactus into ponderosa pine in about an hour.
Does not observe daylight saving, and has declined to since 1968.
